Easy Things You Can Do to Help the Great Lakes!
Place your trash in a garbage can or recycle bin. Please don't litter!
Never dump on the ground, in storm drains, down sinks, or toilets! Remind adults to dispose of toxic items at a local hazardous waste collection center.
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Recycle your aluminum cans, paper, glass and plastic water bottles. Help your parents look for durable items that can be reused and repaired, rather than thrown away.
Bring a reusable bag when you shop. Plastic bags end up in lakes and eventually in the ocean, killing marine mammals that get tangled in them or swallowed by them.
Save water by turning off it off when you brush your teeth. Make sure the dishwasher is full before running it.
Walk or ride your bike to school.
Turn off lights and electronics when they are not in use.
Take a short shower instead of a bath.
Help your parents plant trees to shade the south and west sides of your home.
Next time you go to the beach, bring a trash bag and spend a few minutes picking up any litter you find.
